What has the IRS introduced?

The IRS now provides a digitally verifiable Tax Compliance Report in the Individual Online Account. It is official proof of federal tax compliance for individuals and sole proprietors, and it can be used when applying for a job, a loan or government benefits, or anywhere else you need to show your federal tax standing.

How to download it

Sign in to your IRS Individual Online Account and go to Records and statusTax recordsTax Compliance Report. For individuals and sole proprietors, the downloaded file is IRS Letter 6201.

Before you use it

Share the original PDF downloaded from the IRS. Screenshots, scans and "print to PDF" copies do not keep the digital certificate.

If the report shows a balance due, unreported income, late filing or another compliance issue, check the tax year, the amount and your account records first, then decide whether to file, pay or send an explanation.
