US–China Cross-Border Tax

Income, accounts and family ties on both sides of the Pacific bring filings most preparers never see. This is our core specialty, handled in English and Chinese.

What is included

  • FBAR (FinCEN 114) and Form 8938 foreign account reporting
  • Form 3520 for gifts and inheritance received from abroad
  • PFIC (Form 8621), foreign tax credit and treaty positions
  • Streamlined filing for those who missed prior-year reporting

The forms that catch people out

Foreign bank accounts above the threshold require an FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) and often Form 8938. A gift or inheritance from a parent abroad above the threshold requires Form 3520, with penalties for late filing even when no tax is due. Foreign mutual funds can be PFICs reported on Form 8621. We prepare all of them, every year, and explain in your language why they matter.

Missed a year?

If prior-year reporting was missed, the IRS streamlined procedures can bring you into compliance with reduced or no penalties. We assess eligibility, prepare the amended returns and the certification, and file the package.

Treaty positions and credits

Income taxed in both countries is usually relieved through the foreign tax credit or a treaty position. We claim what applies and document it.
